“I analyze different types of samples and use several instruments to check the quality of our products and make sure everything is working as it should,” Barbara explains.
Finding meaning in the work
What attracted her and still makes her proud to work at St1, is the combination of technological development, variety in the work, and the company’s clear focus on sustainability.
“I get to work with different instruments and accredited methods, and analyze many types of samples. That makes the job varied and technically challenging. At the same time, it feels meaningful to be part of a company that invests in solutions for the future,” she says.
Barbara describes the working environment at the refinery as both intense and stimulating. The pace can be fast, but the sense of community and collaboration among colleagues makes a big difference.
“We have a strong team spirit and always support each other. That makes it enjoyable and gives you a sense of security, even when there’s a lot going on.”

Through her daily work, Barbara contributes to the transition toward a more sustainable society. By ensuring quality and compliance with safety standards, the laboratory helps ensure that the entire production process operates safely and efficiently.
Development is a natural part of everyday life in the role of a laboratory engineer. New analyses, new challenges, and knowledge-sharing with colleagues ensure that learning never stops.
“I learn a lot from my colleagues, through collaboration and by seeing how they solve problems. It helps me grow and become more confident in my role.”
Barbara also highlights supportive leadership as an important part of the work environment at St1. Having a manager who is available when needed, and a team that is happy to share their knowledge, creates both security and engagement.
When asked why someone should apply for a laboratory engineer role at St1, her answer is clear:
“It’s a company that truly invests in development, sustainability and new solutions. You get to work with advanced technology, develop every day, and be part of a strong team – which makes the job both fun and meaningful.”
