Building the Nordic St1 biogas network, one station at a time

Reducing emissions from heavy-duty transport requires practical solutions on the road. St1 and its joint venture St1 Biokraft will continue expanding the biogas distribution network across the Nordics with new refuelling stations in Finland, Sweden and Norway during autumn 2026. The expanding network will improve access to biogas, including on long-distance and cross-border transport routes.
St1’s Nordic network currently consists of 15 liquefied biogas (LBG) refuelling stations for heavy-duty transport, with the aim of expanding the network to more than 50 stations by 2028.
Growth continues across all three countries
The development of the St1 biogas network will continue throughout autumn 2026.
In Finland, new LBG stations will open in Riihimäki, Honkaluoto (Pori), Nurmo (Seinäjoki) and Ojanko (Vantaa). At the same time, the availability of compressed biogas will expand with new CBG stations in Kiuruvesi, Riihimäki and Ojanko (Vantaa).
In Sweden, the LBG network will be expanded to Örkelljunga and Strängnäs.
In Norway, new LBG stations will open in Åsland (Oslo) and Klett (Trondheim).
As the network expands, transport companies will be able to plan their routes more flexibly and make use of biogas on longer journeys as well as in cross-border transport operations.
“Interest in biogas within the transport sector continues to grow. Expanding the refuelling network improves access to renewable fuel and makes biogas an increasingly practical option for heavy-duty transport. The more comprehensive the network becomes, the easier it is for customers to make commercially viable and low-emission choices in their business operations,” says Tuomas Tenkanen, Head of B2B Cards Sales at St1.

Building the network where transport flows
New stations are being established along key transport corridors and logistics hubs, ensuring that heavy-duty vehicles can refuel where biogas is needed most.
In Finland, the current LBG network includes stations in Iittala (Hämeenlinna), Mäntsälä, Halikko (Salo), Hirvaskangas (Äänekoski), Voutila (Vantaa), Iisalmi, Liminka, Liperi and Imatra.
In Sweden, LBG stations are located in Torsvik (Jönköping), Herrbeta, Arvika and Jordbro, and in Norway in Lonelier (Kristiansand) and Koppang.
In addition to the liquefied biogas network, St1 Biokraft already operates more than 50 compressed biogas (CBG) refuelling stations in Sweden.
A strong network accelerates the transition to renewable energy solutions
Refuelling infrastructure plays a critical role in the energy transition of heavy-duty transport. When biogas is widely available across the Nordics, transport companies can more confidently invest in gas-powered vehicles and increase their use of renewable energy solutions.
Biogas offers a cost-effective way to reduce emissions from heavy-duty transport. Depending on the feedstock used, biogas can significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions compared to fossil fuels. Biogas produced from manure can achieve lifecycle greenhouse gas emission reductions of more than 100%*.
Biogas is one of the solutions St1 offers to support the energy transition in heavy-duty transport. Alongside biogas, St1 is expanding the availability of renewable HVO diesel and developing its electric vehicle charging network. The goal is to provide practical, low-emission energy solutions for a wide range of transport needs, both today and in the future.
*When manure is used as feedstock, the lifecycle emission reduction can exceed 100% (depending on factors such as manure type), as emissions are reduced not only in road transport but also in agriculture. The emission reduction in agriculture is accounted for in accordance with the applicable legislation.
