The next phase of the St1 geothermal pilot project is underway and preparations of drilling work are ongoing in Otaniemi, Espoo. The drilling equipment will be transported and erected to the site, which could cause inconvenience to traffic in the area during August.
The geothermal plant under construction consists of two deep wells drilled into the bedrock, the first of which has already been drilled to a depth of 6.4 kilometers and the second to 3.3 kilometers. Based on the results of a water stimulation conducted in the summer of 2018, it has now been determined in which direction the remainder of the second well will be drilled to ensure the best flow of water between the wells.
The drilling of the second well will continue in late August / September. At that time, the traffic on Sähkömiehentie will have to be cut off during drilling. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
